Kaidence is a very well for an 8th month old!
She snacks a lot throughout the day, at first that had me a little worried because it seemed like she was always eating. I found the zak website and saw that Dr. Sears recommends babies 'grazing' throughout the day.
That made me feel much better because he is actually a Pediatrician, father of 8, and author of over 40 books on childcare. I'm pretty sure he knows his stuff!
According to Dr. Sears "Raise a Grazer!" Children should graze on frequent meals throughout the day. Let them nibble, dip, and graze their way through mini-meals all day long.
Grazing is good for the brain. Eating small, frequent mini-meals throughout the day provides a slow and steady supply of fuel for the brain.
Grazing is good for the tummy. Grazers suffer less from reflux because smaller meals pass more quickly through the stomach, and are easier to digest.
Grazing is good for weight control. Grazing helps with weigh control by raising your child's metabolism and, therefore, burning more calories.
I think all of those things are great, and made me feel a lot better about K snacking throughout the day.
The only problem, I had multiple snack containers in her diaper bag.
Moms know, the diaper bag is full enough with the necessities. So, when you add 3-5 snack containers it is impossible to carry a small bag!
I fill up Kaidence's tray in the mornings before breakfast.
She usually eats oatmeal & yogurt, then I let her 'graze' on the tray if she's still hungry.
Between breakfast & lunch she usually has a snack.
She eats her lunch, has a snack before dinner and then her dinner.
Usually by the end of the day she has most of it eaten!
That's okay though, because I fill it with healthy snacks!
On this day, she had cantaloupe, peach yogurt, and mandarin oranges in the detachable "leaf".
In the rest of the container she had shredded cheese, ham, turkey, chicken, berry yogurt melts, Cheerios, goldfish, watermelon, raisins, broccoli, cauliflower, and cucumbers.
I love the tray because all of her snacks fit in there, perfectly!
It's wonderful not having to empty out her diaper bag just to try to get to one container of snacks.
Another great thing, the top detaches. So, when she doesn't finish her yogurt I can put it in the refrigerator to keep cool.
And, it is dishwasher safe! Around here, Josh & I both do the dishes, so it's aggravating having to remember what we can and can't put in the dishwasher. We have actually ruined a few sippy cups because we forgot if it was dishwasher safe!
Kaidence really enjoys the Nibble Tray, too.
She loves being able to feed herself, and, of course, she loves to make a mess!
